Ok, so you asked for pointers. Everything I do is on a tracing board, they're only 30 bucks. Anyways, the plexiglass top provides a very smooth work surface, wood or counter top has too much texture, that will show in your artwork. when you shade, start with your darkest shade, and where you want to transition into the next shade, lighten the pressure you have on the pencil, then when you start with the next one, overlap where you've already been, pressing firmly, it'll make for a clean, smooth color transition. Lastly, don't leave anything uncolored, like in this piece, that purple looks patchy, so take advantage of your white pencil, it'll smooth out the purple, and and really make the picture pop. Your paper looks like it has a tint to it, does it? Sketch books are killers, they are for sketching, if you want to color, use plain white copy paper, or if you're drawing tattoo designs, you could always go with a peach shade. Any other questions, just ask, because I've an apprentice who I'm working on drawings with at the moment, and any questions you have may be things I'm leaving out, and so, it'll better his education.
